Hi, I am a college student doing a report on Muslim Funeral's. I was wondering if anyone of this religion would have time to break down the steps for me in as much detail as possible. I live in a small town and in the past 3 years I have noticed many Muslim families moving into my community. Living in Ontario with our legislation for funeral homes and cemeteries I was wondering how things will be handled.
For example it is law that you are buried in a container you can not be with out one.
If anyone could help me out it would be greatly appreciated!

AMEN! Transport Guy! I read the koran several years ago to find the peace and love they say with their mouth and there is none there. The closest thing I could find was that they are to love "infidels" which is anyone who does not believe in allah until they outnumber us and then they are to take our heads! America is selling itself down the road ALL the middle eastern countries have traveled. Why arent they free over there today. Those who opposed lost their heads once they were out numbered! If you are Muslim! And you believe the Koran! you cant be anything but Radical! Thats all their book teaches! Read the book!

Salaams (Peace)

Two things...
1. Why the owner would purposely mislead his employees and inconvenience them is a real shocker. But people are people everywhere and are often unthinking as to how things play out. I have been to many funerals and often there are non Muslims who have come to pay their respects and they ARE VERY MUCH WELCOME AND APPRECIATED.

Many times we don't see the non Muslim friends of the deceased I think because the funeral comes so quickly by non Muslim standards that most people are not prepared to attend the next day or even know where to go or what to do. By the time people outside the community find out about the death often they have already been buried.

2. I take particular insult to Mr. Mortuary Transport Export stating: "From a historical perspective of the beliefs of Muslims, I do know they are advised (maybe too soft a word) to lie to those who don’t believe the way they do, which would be all non-Muslims. They see it as moral to lie in that case, so they probably see nothing wrong with what they did. It does show again how unwilling they are to assimilate into our culture. "

That is actually C R A P . You are NOT an expert on Islam or Islamic Jurisprudence. Lying is BIG SIN (HARAM) in Islam except and ONLY in the instance where your life may be in danger. The truth is that people lie, a lot of people ar shortsighted idiots and people do the stupid and wrong thing with the best misguided intentions are it's a sin in all faiths.

We don't make generalizations about Christians or Christianity because our boss or friend or president lies to us.

I read this while looking for something completely different in regards to Islamic funerals. However, I regard it as a good open minded post. Just to reitterate in regards to the post of Yousef Salem February 12th, 2009 at 10:33 am, there are always some people, in any variety of faiths that are high strung and strongly believe everything to the letter. Nothing wrong with this, however, it is pertinent to remember that when replying to such people, we need to use a clear and calm head, as not all Muslims are of the same nature.

As you can appreciate, I see from the original post that you have encountered a diverse type of muslims, and in the most, people who are "normal", yes? just with a different belief! this proves that the one or two idiots who reply should not be taken into the context of the majority. But i blame media in our societies for this.

Anyway, in response to the work post, I am appalled by what i have read on this matter. As a muslim, i know that many do not like non-muslims attending the funeral, however there are guidlines set out for non-muslims to attend a muslim funeral and burial. if these are followed there isnt any problem, as it ensure that the religiuous purity of the ceremony is not diluted by others (not that anyone would try to do this deliberately, but you understand what i mean)

just a general comment i thought i would put out there in this subject matter since it took me in.

I am first sorry about your loss and want to say may God reward your loss. As a muslim I would have invited people of all faiths to give condolinces to the loss of a friend. It shocks me on the comments about Islamic ideology. If a muslim makes a mistake or does something wrong it is not Islam(the path) but the muslim(the individual). We are not perfect as well as anyone of any other faith. But I shouldn't be suprised as a blackman in america the same thing happens to my race.
