Article Request: How I got started…
by Mortuary Transport Expert ~ August 3rd, 2010. Filed under: Getting Started.
I’d like to post some of the stories of how some of you got started in the mortuary transport services business.
At the end, let us know if you had it all to do over again, what would you do differently?
Send submissions to article-request@mortuarytransport.com
Thanks!

I got started when I was 13 years old. I started by staying at the funeral home to get away from a drunken abusive father. The guy who worked there new my situation and family, I started by cutting grass, washing the vehicles, and keeping the funeral home clean. As the owner got to know me, he started teaching me the business. At 14 I had a special driver’s license and was going on first calls, driving in processions, and the resident ambulance attendant.
Chuck’s mother lived upstairs and almost blind, I helped take care of her, and read to her at night. (her book and the bible)
I enjoyed the sense of belonging and the responsibilities of my job.
I was 60 years old laid off, so I went back to my roots and started my own service since there was no other like it in the area, hence the name TRADITIONS.
Please note foolishly I joined The USMC and after retiring, did ranching till my own mother needed me in Ohio more than my grown kids needed me in Texas. They now have the ranch.
